Gallery of My Latest Work

'Elemental 1' mixed media on canvas - 70 x 100 x 2 cms
'Elemental 2' mixed media on canvas - 100 x 70 x 2 cms
These two paintings (above) were the first in the 'Elemental' series. Click the image to see the full painting.
'Elemental 3' acrylic on canvas - 79 x 79 x 4 cms
'Elemental 4' acrylic on canvas - 79 x 79 x 4 cms
These two paintings (above) are the third and fourth in a series called 'Elemental'. I have restricted the palette to the three main primary colours (red, yellow and blue) plus black and white as well as using some collage. My aim was to explore successive layers of paint and paper, building and dismantling over time, in a mostly random way much like what would happen if the canvas was exposed to the elements.....
Collage 1 - 50cms x 50cms Art clever, box clever. Sea, hills and fragmented coastline. Neat and tidy, tell a story... Before the surge changes everything.
Collage 2 - 50cms x 50cms Launching off the high place, I slice the air like a champion diver. Twisting and turning I see the sea race rapidly towards me. My body stretches out streamlined Into the beautiful blue water.
Collage 3 - 50cms x 50cms Bulbous clouds and choppy seas Compete against a fiery sky. Brace yourself as you lean into the diagonal wind Lest you take off and soar like a bird on its maiden flight.
Collage 4 - 50cms x 50cms Coastal town abandoned and broken Flotsam and jetsam leave a messy trail. Decaying shark once awesome, slashed and speared like a trophy Now alone without an audience.
This new series of four collages continue with the exploration of random design versus aesthetic control. As this project continued the design became more random , dynamic and more energetic. These small images serve as sketches for planned larger works on a mural scale. Please scroll over each image to read the accompanying poem.....
These were the first two mixed-media images (below) I created in my new Spanish studio - I just had to let the amazing colours of what I could see loose!

These four images above try to capture the landscape around where I live in Mijas Pueblo, Southern Spain.
